Commercial

The Commercial Department consists of three key areas, namely Fleet Planning, Charter Sales and Freight Operations.

With an ever expanding fleet of 33 aircraft, managing the flying program is becoming an ever-larger task. Often juggling the requirements of many departments, the Fleet Planning Team are responsible for planning, scheduling and coordinating the Jet2.com fleet, making sure that each airframe is utilised in the most efficient way - in line with our lowcost ideology. This is also linked to the application and management of Jet2.com's ever-increasing slot portfolio - allowing us to operate optimum schedules to some of Europe's most congested airports.

Charter Sales have the challenge of trying to sell the available gaps in the programme not utilised by Jet2.com scheduled services. Their one dedicated aircraft is a Stansted based Boeing 737 but in addition they sell wherever and whenever possible on any available space on 'mainline' aircraft. Flights can be a regular weekly series for a tour operator or any manner of one-off flights for customers ranging from football clubs and supporters, orchestras, car manufacturers or even individuals with very deep pockets! Unlike the normal scheduled product, charter flights operate to whatever specification the customer requires, including in a business class configuration, upgraded hot meal catering, free drinks, internal and external branding and to any destination that the aircraft can safely operate to.

Before Jet2.com existed, the company was one of the biggest freight-only airlines in Europe. Although now primarily a passenger carrying airline, Jet2.com has maintained a very lucrative long-term overnight freight operation on behalf of the Royal Mail. This now involves 8 Boeing 737-300QC's (Quick-Change) and a single Boeing 737-300 freighter. These aircraft fly five nights per week on various domestic routes from Edinburgh, Belfast, Newcastle, Stansted and Exeter. It is as a direct result of aircraft being required to be based at the first three of these locations that Jet2.com began passenger scheduled services from those airports.

In summary, the role of the Commercial Department is to attract, plan and contractually manage our entire operation.
